Travel Guide: A day in the ROOTS

Hey, Friends!

Over the Summer I attended a great program called ROOTS (Rising Over Oppression Through Solidarity). ROOTs was a six-day initiative spent in the woods of  South Jersey. The program itself was very informative and eye-opening. I learned a lot about myself as an individual, as a woman, and as an American. This was the first program I attended that was for private school and public school students. I was a little skeptical attending this conference because it was in the woods, but also because it was a joint program (meaning the backgrounds students were coming from were completely opposite than my own). Quite the contrary it actually turned out to be a really great time. I met many students from different ethnical backgrounds, schools, and family backgrounds. Let me tell you, the struggle is real. In that course of the week, I saw how privileged I am, as a student, a daughter, and as a person. So many of the people there struggled with identity discrimination in their communities, families, and school. It was overall a great program and experience. In order for it to run again it is crucial that that program raises enough money every year to students and adults alike can take part in this initiative. You can help and donate to Project ROOTS here

If you have any questions about how to get involved with the program, feel free to send me a message here
